My wife and I have spent years avoiding the stupidity that is Valentine's Day. She's always said that flowers die and chocolates make her gain weight. So I've been off the hook for a long time. This year just for fun, I decided to buy her a piece of jewelry and pop it her way the day AFTER Valentines. And of course I wasn't going to support the silly folks at Hallmark so it came without a card. But it did sort of sway the playing field of the joint checking account as she "felt bad" for not getting me anything. I was an oldest child. My dad's entire mantra in parenting was "life's not fair. Get over it." My wife was a youngest child. In her world, everything HAS to be fair. This concept is somewhat foreign to me, but who am I to complain when she gives me permission to spend money on "anything I could possibly want in the vape world." Yee ha. But I'm practical. No $300 custom mods this weekend. But I did order and purchase a smorgasbord of fun stuff. All of it will get a review in the coming week or so.
My first purchase was a Cirrus cartomizer tank. I was introduced to these things about 9 months or so ago when GrimmGreen did his "On the Road" segment with the iTaste MVP. He had a green one and I was hooked. I looked up the company and have desperately wanted one of these tanks in dark blue almost since the first days of my vape journey. But the standard tank plus drip tip plus shipping is nearly $75 without a single cartomizer in it. Yeah. THAT is a bit extravagant for my blood. My favorite vv/vw mod (the Sigelei ZMax) didn't cost me much more than that and it has actual electronics in it. This is a piece of pyrex glass and some aluminum end caps. Alas, in my opinion, they are simply the most beautiful tanks on the market. And one is on the way to me. The one place I could find them for sale today was Vape Industry in California. I got an email a bit ago with shipping info. I. Am. Stoked.
After lunch today, I got my second major score. On a whim, I had checked out Five Pawns website last week to look for Texas vendors selling their e-liquid. Lo and behold, as of last month, they have one right here in my little town. So I called yesterday and they told me I could come taste all five flavors. So I popped into their store today and did just that. I'll certainly be writing up a full review of my thoughts on the flavors, but suffice it to say that I walked out with a 30mL bottle of Grandmaster. It was my favorite of the bunch. But they were all very good. I'm certain I'll be buying more of their flavors in the very near future.
But it gets even better. I hadn't been in this shop since I'd stopped smoking a year ago. This shop is a tobacco shop that is also selling e-cigs. You know what those are normally like. One little corner with some really sketchy house-made juice and a small display full of eGo batteries. Boy was I surprised. This store had a great selection of mods. Everything from the VAMO to the SVD to the new Coolfire mods. And there it was. In the midst of their mods was a little bitty square pipe mod. And I had to have it. What it was is an Oakley Vaping X-Cube. And at $37, I was willing to take a chance on a product I've never seen before. It was the last one they had and they didn't have a box for it, so the gal there threw in the 18350 battery for free with it. I'll do a full review on this goofy little pipe mod later. I've read two reviews online and both didn't like it, but they both claimed the list price was in the $60+ range. For that price, I'd hate it too. But at $37, it is too cool. But that's a story for another time.
I've now been home half a day. I've got the new Five Pawns Grandmaster in my Aspire Nautilus tank and I've been vaping it all evening. It's simply a stellar vape. I've got my other favorite flavor (Glazed Pecan from Artisan Vapor) in my UDCT tank and it's been working incredibly well too. I've got several DIY flavors in other tanks and my last batches of DIY, pink lemonade and juicy peach, both came out fantastic.
The moral of the story is this: Some days in vaping do suck. But some days are like this one. A couple new toys. A stellar new flavor. And equipment that is working as it is supposed to be. Tomorrow may be an entirely different day in vaping for me. That's okay. The further I go, the more I realize, vaping, like everything else in life, has it's up days and down days.
