When I started vaping, I tried a handful of flavors in my local store and eventually landed on two: root beer and cinnamon. I now have 16 different tanks and each one of them is filled with a different flavor. I've bought 13 different concentrated flavorings from 2 different vendors and in the process, I've found out quite a bit about my own tastes.
As I sit and attempt to figure out what I like and what I don't, I'm breaking my selections down into categories of flavors. I hate all the tobacco flavors I've tried. After tonight, I've found I pretty much hate all the baked goods I've tried. Fruit flavors for me have been hit and miss. The green apple has been okay. The watermelon too harsh. The strawberry kiwi is great. Flavors that I love in foods, I find myself just meh about in an e-juice. Flavors that I hate in foods, I sometimes find myself surprisingly enamored with in vaping. For instance, I can't stand rum in mixed drinks, but I really like a rum & coke flavored juice that I have.
And I can absolutely say one thing for certain: any flavor that even remotely tastes like raisin makes me have a gag reflex that is almost vomit inducing. That's happened twice on free flavors from Mt. Baker. The first was their Razzleberry Pie and the most recent was something they are calling Cool Runnings...which to me tastes like maple syrup plus menthol. I mean, the latter of those two was so bad for me that I threw out the clearomizer with the juice in it.
The only consistent thing I can find is that I like candy flavors across the board. Cinnamon redhots is a favorite. I really love the black licorice. My Mt. Baker Vapor wintergreen is one I carry to work with me every single day. I bought Candy Cane just because we're heading into the holidays and I thought, why not? It is another flavor that I find myself coming back to over and over. And then there's Hawk Sauce from Mt. Baker Vapor. That stuff is something else.
I bought it on a whim simply because of the ratings. And it has literally ruined me to every other flavor. I mean RUINED me. I can't find anything else that even comes close. I can vape it all day and never grow tired of it. And what's worse, there is seemingly no other juice that has the same properties, regardless of flavor. It's a strong flavor that works great in the Aspire tank. It's got a nice, even, solid throat hit. Not harsh, but definitely there. Right where I like it. It produces quite a bit of vapor for me. I mean, there are times when I get clouds as substantial as guys using RBAs.
Nobody really knows what's in Hawk Sauce. Mt. Baker describes it as a sour berry with a touch of menthol. But what it tastes like to me is Fun Dip. And what's even weirder is that I would likely never buy something that I thought tasted like Fun Dip. Ever. But it works on this series of levels that are almost inexplicable. It is the driest vape I've ever had. It is so dry that it literally tastes and feels like you are sucking in and blowing out the soft Fun Dip powder. I'm entirely certain that there are every bit as many people out there that probably hate this flavor as much as I like it, but I fear that it will forever be my favorite. I've bought a second bottle of the concentrated flavoring because I'm going through about 4mL a day of it.
So here I sit tonight, trying to figure out what to do with a ton of flavorings that I just can't seem to get myself to vape when I've got a perfectly good tank of Hawk Sauce sitting there waiting for me. I still vape my cinnamon, wintergreen and licorice. But for the now, I may just be done going nuts on e-juice flavors. I suppose it's good to finally settle into the decisions of what we like and what we don't. It just makes me wonder how many vapers are out there with a drawer full of unused juices. Because you were, like me, chasing that elusive flavor that you finally found. And now don't know what to do with the rest of them.
